The Future of Behavioral Health Services

This research was sponsored by ValueOptions, the nation’s largest independent behavioral health care company, which provides services to more than 23 million individuals through a variety of contracts with state and county agencies, as well as with health plans and employers.

The goal of the project was to identify technology-enabled solutions that will create a more effective and innovative behavioral health delivery system for children and adolescents with behavioral health needs, especially in rural and frontier geographies, and in a multi-cultural population.

Over a six month period in 2008, HealthTech, ValueOptions and experts around the State of New Mexico researched and probed the practicality of important innovations and emerging technologies. The extensive knowledge and fieldwork by the University of New Mexico telehealth program and other state technology innovators assisted as well.

This research resulted in an Expert Panel discussion of the research and its meaning for national programs and especially for New Mexico’s challenges and solutions, a ten-year forecast of future trends and technologies technology impact projection wallchart, as well as key trends and expert panel video.
